Reflecting on our 3 month old

I have a calendar on which I write something about Madeline each and every day.  Some days, it's something she did.  Other days, I make notes about her mood, special visitors, or something fun we did.  My mom made a similar calendar for me that documents the first year of my life, and it's a lot of fun to look at, so that inspired me to do the same for Maddie.  Yesterday, as I placed the 4 month sticker on the calendar (unbelievable that she's already 4 months old!), I looked back over the past month at everything she has done.  It was a very busy month!  It was also a fairly significant month developmentally for her as she started using her hands to reach for objects.  Here's a few highlights...

She started recognizing faces and voices.  For the first time, when my mom walked into her room and called her by name, Maddie turned her head towards her and smiled.  She will also smile and laugh out loud when someone smiles/laughs at her...
She started reaching for anything and everything on which she can get her hands.  Therefore, earrings and necklaces are virtually a thing of the past for me now as her curious little hands will find them in no time.  She loves using her hands to check out everything on her play mat...
She wore her first pair of shoes when she went to her first baby shower...
Summer ended, so my mom got her a hat and pair of mittens so they can continue to go on their daily walk(s) as it gets cooler...
We celebrated Mathew's 27th birthday...
She had two very special visitors.  Heather got to meet her for the first time, and Aunt Lindsay came to town for a weekend...

Perhaps one of Maddie's favorite things this month, my parents set-up the swing in the yard for her...
A few other fun things from September were she stayed alone with Grandma Emma for an afternoon while Mathew and I went to a movie, and my dad gave her a bottle for the first time.  I've come to the conclusion that while tiny babies are great, three month olds are a TON of fun.  It's amazing how much of a personality she has developed and how much more interactive she is.  I'm excited to see what October brings!
